Entry from: Cologne, Germany Entry Title: “Cologne” Entry: “We are finally here in Germany! Our stay in Cologne has been great, although we haven’t seen a ton since we’ve been mostly catching up on sleep and recouperating from the trip. The flight itself went smoothly, although we had some problems with our bags. They charged us for each of our bags, even though it didn’t cost us anything on the flight over! There wasn’t much we could do about it, since if we missed our plane our visas would have probably expired before getting another flight … this wouldn’t have been good. We flew into Frankfurt airport and took a train to Cologne, which was only about an hour long. However, my suitcase’s zipper broke in transit, so we had to figure out how to keep it somewhat together while lugging everything through the train station. Arriving in Frankfurt, we were so shocked that we had no trouble getting through customs. In Moscow – even just to get into the dorms – you need a billion different documents, and you never know what they’ll want on which day and in what order, etc., etc. The guards at our university acted like they were doing you a huge favor just to let you into your dorm! Security in Frankfurt just looked at our passports, SMILED, and said “Welcome”. I think we thought it was a joke at first
